Background:

TD Ameritrade is a brokerage firm based in Omaha, NE. The company provides services for individuals and institutions that are investing online. The company offers an electronic trading platform for the purchase and sale of financial securities including common stocks, preferred stocks, futures contracts, exchange-traded funds, options, mutual funds, and fixed income investments. It also provides margin lending, and cash management services.

The Challenge:

As a growing organization, TD Ameritrade was utilizing a large single Jira Software, Service Desk, and Confluence instance for tracking, managing, and documenting project tasks, information, and documentation. TD Ameritrade was looking to further optimize and consolidate their Atlassian Tool Suite, improve overall performance, and scale the implementation for use across multiple departments and branches of TDA.

The Solution:

Ascend Integrated, working with cPrime a large Atlassian Solutions Partner, to analyze their current implementation for their Atlassian Tool Suite, including their governance processes and procedures, technical specifications and configurations, and specific configurations and app recommendations for their tools.

Outcome:

TDA continues to utilize the recommendations and configurations made by Ascend Integrated in their Atlassian Tool instance. TDA’s Atlassian Tool Suite performance has increased by over 30% and continues to grow in use across the organization, spanning multiple departments and branches of TDA.

Red Roof Inn

Red Roof Inn

Background:

Red Roof Inn is a large Hotel chain operating internationally and across the United States. As part of their expansion efforts, they are looking to leverage new Project Management tools and processes to help grow with their organization.

The Challenge:

Red Roof Inn has multiple systems/tools used for project management and multiple processes for managing teams. After reaching out to Ascend Integrated, Red Roof decided to move forward in implementing JIRA Software, JIRA Service Desk, and Confluence to be used across the organization.

The Solution:

Ascend Integrated began interviewing with teams to document AS-IS and TO-BE processes and system architectures. Using these processes and requirements, Ascend Integrated implemented these changes/updates into a JIRA Cloud/Confluence Cloud solution for Red Roof Inn. Agile processes, including Scrum and Kanban were implemented with the teams, along with integrations with multiple tools using add-ons/apps. Ascend Integrated also worked to set up a CMDB tool using a 3rd party application.

Outcome:

Processes are not a “one and done”, but a continued endeavor that evolves with the organization. The migration to the new tools, along with the processes was successful, and Red Roof now has visibility across Jira issues, help desk requests/issues, and documentation, directly improving performance and providing them the springboard to continue to grow as an organization. Ascend continues to support the Red Roof team following the implementation.

Micron Technology, Inc

Micron Technology, Inc

Background:

Micron Technologies is a large publicly traded producer of solid state-drives, storage devices, and RAM. They have multiple dispersed teams using Jira Software and Confluence server for collaboration and project management.

The Challenge:

Micron’s use of Jira and Confluence continued to grow past the originally anticipated capacity of several hundred users. There was full time DevOps engineers dedicated to utilizing and maintaining the Atlassian Tool Suite, along with integrating the Atlassian tools with third-party apps such as Jenkins for build and deployment. Micron needed a scalable solution that would be able to handle the load put onto it through multiple concurrent users.

The Solution:

Working with cPrime, Ascend Integrated compiled a list of recommendations, included recommended add-ons/apps, and the importance of migrating to a Jira and Confluence Data Center environment to accommodate additional performance and functionality capabilities. Third-party apps and REST API integrations were also explored, along with the modification/updates of Velocity Templates for outgoing emails. Ascend provided maintenance and support services for Jira and Confluence.

Outcome:

Micron Technology Integrated Jenkins into their Jira instance, and was able to implement the performance updates/configurations successfully. Their Jira instance continues to be used across multiple branches and departments in the organization.

NewRez

NewRez

Background:

NewRez is a regional financial management and mortgage lender operating nationwide. They have multiple lending offices, commercial real estate, and loan management/operational services.

The Challenge:

NewRez is continuing to grow and is looking to expand/manage their IT Help Desk, management, and Agile project management needs. Utilizing multiple third party and homegrown applications, NewRez is looking for both an ITIL v3 and agile method for managing the multitude of services they are providing to their internal clients. NewRez also needed an effective method to report on and analyze IT findings, issues, and locations/configuration items impacted due to an IT outage.

The Solution:

Ascend Integrated worked with NewRez in developing a solution/path forward for the growing organization. Ascend Integrated highlighted a path forward for Agile Project Management and ITIL v3 compliance, utilizing a multi-phased approach. Using the JIRA Software and Service Desk data center instances implemented in NewRez, Ascend installed and configured Workflow Extensions, Dynamic Forms, ScriptRunner, and Arsenale Dataplane to track and manage tickets/requests entered into the JSD portal.

Ascend Integrated also refined the service desk request collection process, including updating workflows, building out automation, and providing custom ITIL v3 guidance for NewRez’s processes. Audibility and traceability were key goals for the solution, providing auditors the ability to review step by step all processes and procedures taken to resolve a request entered through their ticket management system.

Outcome:

Ascend Integrated continues to provide support to NewRez on all aspects of the Atlassian tool suite. NewRez is utilizing their JSD Data Center configured instance for tracking and managing tickets/requests and agile project management processes. ITIL v3 processes implemented by Ascend Integrated continue to help guide the management of the JSD portal, and the streamlined workflows/Arsenale Dataplane reporting capabilities continue to aide the IT Service desk team.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

Background: CMS is a large Federal Agency dedicated to payment processing for Medicare and Medicaid patients. Their initiative, the Social Security Number Removal Initiative (SSNRI) renamed to the New Medicare Card, is an initiative aimed at removing Social Security Numbers from public forms and information that a beneficiary will need to provide when either registering or updating information with CMS.

The Challenge:

There are multiple policies, procedures, and discussions that were in development for implementing the New Medicare Card initiative. These included both technical discussions, as well as the tracking and managing of form reviews and SSN removals. A tool which provided these centralized capabilities was required in order to properly track and manage the development and implementation of these policies.

The Solution:

Ascend Integrated, working with Platinum Business Solutions implemented a Jira Software and Confluence instance, installing and configuring Ubuntu 16.04 AWS EC2 instances with PostgreSQL 9.6, Jira Software and Confluence. SSL certificates were installed, set up and configured on the servers to allow for secure traffic across the Jira instance. Licenses were purchased, updated, and the application was ready for use for the CMS personnel.

Outcome:

The Jira and Confluence instances are still in use today by CMS for tracking and managing policies, procedures, and technical implementations. Ascend Integrated continues to support the application, providing updates and design configurations for CMS.
